Last Thursday and Friday were such busy days for the directors and editor of CFO South Africa, that we didn't really have time to reflect yet – but what days they were! First of all there was the Digital Transformation event in the Tintswalo at Waterfall hotel, which probably was our BEST attended function so far. “After two years of building a network, our initiative proves to be exactly what Chief Financial Officers and Finance Directors in South Africa are yearning for,” say founders Alex van Groningen en Melle Eijckelhoff. “This is the only independent platform that enables finance leaders to engage in in-depth peer to peer discussions, learn about the latest trends and participate in high level networking.”
This need doesn't only exist in the private sector, but also in the public sector where capacity problems are daily news. EARLIER in the week, we spoke about this with the CFOs of Eskom and the Department for Mineral Resources. On Friday, we met with auditor-general Michael Sass en CFO Bob Head of SARS to get their perspective on the need to upskill public finance leaders. They both emphasized public CFOs can also benefit immensely from networking with their peers from the private sector, something CFO South Africa's events create a perfect environment for.
Alex and I also had a great meeting with Badibanga Promesse, the global strategic account director for CIMA, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. The institute is knocking on the door of young South African finance talent as an alternative route to become finance leaders. On the same day Melle met with Anna Puzone of Zetta Business Solutions, an IT-consultancy that prides itself in having the needs of finance leaders in mind rather than 'pushing' IT-products.
On Friday we also met with André van der Westhuizen, CFO at 
Keeley Granite in Brits. He chatted to our energetic community manager Chantelle Booysen-Fourie - who we'll introduce on this website shortly. Van der Westhuizen had an inspiring story to tell about succeeding despite many setbacks. He also showed a keen interest in the CFO South Africa PLATINUM MEMBERSHIP, the ultimate way to get the most out of the networking, learning and growth options CFO South Africa offers.
