CFO South Africa on Tuesday announced the establishment of a new prestigious yearly award to honour the best performing CFOs in the country. The fast-growing networking platform for financial professionals is embarking on a process to elect the best Chief Financial Officer of South Africa, culminating in a festive award ceremony in March next year. One of the first influential people who has committed to be on the jury is Victor Sekese, CEO of accounting firm SizweNtsalubaGobodo.
On Tuesday CFO SA founders Alex van Groningen and Melle Eijckelhoff met with Sekese in the Johannesburg premises of his dynamic company. In a frank discussion Sekese elaborated on the challenging times South African CFOs face, especially now credit ratings have dropped, while financial professionals have to play an increasing role in business planning and strategy.
SizweNtsalubaGobodo is the country's largest black audit and accounting firm. With a staff complement of over a 1000 - and ambitions to grow to over 2000 in 3 years - the firm has a well-established national footprint. In South Africa the company is now the largest firm of its kind, after the so-called Big 4.
Future expansion plans are also strategically aimed at the rest of Africa and the international business context.
CFO SA is currently in the process of finalizing the jury for the awards. The network platform also conducted an interview with Sekese in which he gives an in-depth perspective on the current and future roles of CFOs and the direction he wants to take his company in. Look out for this interview on this website next week.
