“The single most important thing that CFOs need to keep in mind in the years that lie ahead is how best to cut costs and drive efficiencies, ensuring that their businesses are sustainable in a difficult, low-growth environment,” said University of Pretoria Chancellor Wiseman Nkhulu.

Nkhulu was speaking on the sidelines of the recent 2017 CFO Awards. The first black chartered accountant from South Africa, Nkhulu has had a long and distinguished career and is one of the most respected voices in the finance professional community. Along with a host of directorships and senior positions, he served as an economic adviser for President Thabo Mbeki from 2000 to 2004 and chaired the Development Bank of Southern Africa Transformation team from January to May 1995.

The Eastern Cape-born icon also stressed the importance of CFOs taking time out to network, exchanging views and experiences and learning from each other.
