The next 12 months are going to be critical for organisations that want to digitalise. On a social level, CFOs have to consider the role they play in broader society. Gone are the days when we can sit back and say certain issues are for politicians, government or industry bodies. If you are CFO making decisions, you have a responsibility to play a deeper role in uplifting communities," says globally renowned public speaker, venture capitalist and entrepreneur Vusi Thembekwayo.
Vusi was speaking on the sidelines of the recent 2017 CFO Awards. Before the gala dinner and the much-anticipated awards ceremony, he hosted an intriguing masterclass entitled The real state of the nation - conversations every CFO should be having to move South Africa and their business forward.
The annual 'Oscars for South African CFOs', to be held on 11 May, recognise CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions, and awards them for outstanding performance and leadership.
Vusi added that he thought it was important that CFOs - often confined to the back rooms of organisations - be celebrated and recognised for the work they do and the role they play in society..
