"Internal auditors are an integral part of the governance processes within an organisation. They provide the ears, eyes and the internal evaluation of organisational activities to both the organisation executive and governing bodies," says Dr Claudelle von Eck, CEO of the Institute of Internal Auditors SA (IIA SA), a silver partner at the Finance Indaba Africa 2017 on 12 and 13 October 2017 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

The Finance Indaba is the biggest annual event on the continent for financial managers and specialists who are seeking partnerships to drive progress. Thousands of delegates will gain valuable insights into realising financial performance and growth, becoming more efficient and accessing funding, among a host of other opportunities from leading players in financial services.

Why will you be present at the Finance Indaba?
"Finance professionals should have a firm understanding of the role and mandate of internal audit. Similarly, internal auditors should be aware of the latest thinking and developments in the financial arena. The IIA SA will be present at the Finance Indaba to address both of these ideals."

What will you be talking about or showcasing?
"Our talk is entitled: Internal audit - creating value for business.

"Internal auditors are an integral part of the governance processes within an organisation. They provide the ears, eyes and the internal evaluation of organisational activities to both the organisation executive and governing bodies.

"Organisational value is improved when internal auditors utilise creative ways to enable the enhancement and development of activities that improve effectiveness and efficiency, or simply verify that the organisation is functioning as closely as possible to desired norms."

What challenges can you help finance professionals/firms with in 2017?
"The focus on the business operations and efficiencies should provide more efficient and effective ways to counteract economic stresses attached to bottom-line reporting."

What are the biggest challenges facing auditors in SA's volatile economic and political climate?
"The application of ethical management and related lack of accountability. There is an increasing pressure on personnel due to economic pressure on all forms of organisations."

IIA SA has a number of partnerships with other professional organisations. How important are these in ensuring the success of the association?
"For us, it is about more than the success of the Institute. It is about understanding that it will take a collective effort to achieve our ideals of building a stronger nation and economy. Our partnerships are therefore about strengthening our ability to serve the country. In the process our members gain much more than they would if we had been running solo. Our motto is "Progress through Sharing.'"
