SABC CFO James Aguma to act as CEO

post-title

Following the unexpected resignation of Jimi Matthews on 28 June, the SABC has appointed its CFO, Ugandan accountant and auditor James Aguma (pictured), as acting CEO.

Mbulaheni Maguvhe, SABC Board Chairperson, made the announcement appointment yesterday afternoon during a special staff meeting at Auckland Park. He also took the opportunity to reassure staff that there is no "crisis" at the SABC, as some have been saying. This follows accusations of censorship at the SABC, following COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng's recent decision not to broadcast violent protest footage, and the suspension of three senior journalists.

Aguma replaced former CFO Gugu Duda. Before being appointed CFO he served as general manager for strategic support at the SABC. Prior to that he was a senior manager at the Office of the Auditor-General.
