Tesla to open SA office

post-title

Elon Musk, the Pretoria-born innovator and business magnate, has decided to open a South African office – and possibly even factory – sometime this year.

According to reports, Tesla South Africa will have just one employee to begin with: Evan Rice - current CEO of GreenCape and a board member of the International Cleantech Network - who has been appointed business manager.

Speaking to htxt.africa. Rice said:

"Tesla will have one employee here from mid-January, but if we can find some solid business cases and get them going we will be expanding."

Unconfirmed reports have also been circulating that Tesla is looking to build a gigafactory in the Western Cape, to manufacture its Powerwall batteries - currently its only product available in South Africa. The company's priority will be to develop a market for this industrial-scale battery pack.
