Zunaid Bulbulia (pictured), former MTN CEO and one of the company’s founders, has joined telecoms service company Huge Group as its new CFO, effective 27 March. David Deetlefs, who was serving as the company’s Group FD, will remain on the board as an executive director.

Huge Group said in a statement:

"Zunaid has been a non-executive director on the company's board since January 2016 and has played a pivotal role in both the recently announced acquisition of the Connectnet Group and various mobile network operator interactions."

According to Huge Group, the board decided that the company needs to establish a group structure that allows it to effectively manage its existing operating companies, as well as any future operating companies it may acquire. This following the recent acquisition of ConnectNet Broadband Wireless and its wholly owned subsidiary company Sainet, which is expected to be completed by end March 2017. Bulbulia is the first direct employee of Huge, with all other employees in the group currently employed by the operating companies.

Bulbulia, a qualified CA, holds a BCom Accounting Degree from Wits University and a BCompt Honours (CTA) from Unisa. He was appointed MTN South Africa CFO in 2005 and CEO in May 2013. In August 2014 he was appointed group chief operations executive of MTN Group. He left MTN Group in December 2015 to pursue other business opportunities.
