Steinhoff trying to fill CEO role

post-title

Steinhoff's supervisory board has nominated Danie van der Merwe as acting CEO

The CEO position at Steinhoff has been vacant since Markus Jooste (pictured) abruptly resigned on 5 December. Although Christo Wiese stepped in for a short time, he, too, has since resigned.

Van der Merwe, currently the retailer’s chief operating officer, joined the group in early 1998, and was appointed as a director of Steinhoff International in 1999. His nomination to the executive role has yet to be submitted to a general meeting.

According to Steinhoff, it has nominated two additional members to help strengthen its management board, including Alexandre Nodale, the CEO of Conforama, who has been nominated to become deputy CEO, and Louis du Preez, who has been nominated for a seat.
