CFO SA public sector chapter in rude health

post-title

In response to overwhelming demand, CFO South Africa launched its public sector chapter in 2014 to give CFOs of departments, municipalities and other governmental bodies the opportunity to share knowledge, discuss challenges, network and listen to solutions that partner organisations have to offer. The chapter was quickly endorse by leading figures, including Minister for Finance in the Western Cape Dr Ivan Meyer.

This year, the chapter was reinvigorated with the City to City Public Finance event series, an initiative started by CFO South Africa, giving CFOs working in the public sector an opportunity to learn, network and share challenges they face working in the sector. The series has already unearthed a number of meaningful insights.

At the first event in the series in February, former Young CFO of the Year and National Arts Council CFO Dumisani Dlamini encouraged CFOs to always find out where and how they can cut costs and save the company money.

For example in one company, he realised that they were overspending money on maintenance services which were paid for on a daily basis.

"Instead of having maintenance all year for printers for instance, call them only when the printers break. That way you save money."
