Nopasika Lila has been nominated for a CFO Award in 2017 for her sterling work at the Eskom Pension and Provident Fund (EPPF). The annual 'Oscars for South African CFOs', to be held on 11 May, recognises CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions and awards them for outstanding performance and leadership.

Chartered accountant Nopasika grew up in the Eastern Cape and is experienced in the areas of finances, corporate governance, management, the retirement industry, strategic issues and training and development. She filled positions at Old Mutual and the Public Investment Corporation before assuming her current role. Nopasika has served in various board and committee roles, which include non-executive directorships at JSE-listed companies such as Nampak Limited, Basil Read Limited and enX Group Limited. Fluent in German and Mandarin, she holds qualifications from the former University of the Transkei, University of Natal, Rand Afrikaans University and Gordon Institute of Business Science.

In an interview with CFO SA, she told us that working at EPPF was richly rewarding:

"Working at the EPPF has provided me with exciting challenges, which I choose to view as opportunities for improvement. We have worked hard to serve our members and pensioners and make them aware of their benefits. Retirement funds from across Africa often visit our offices to enquire, learn and understand the successful growth of the EPPF."

The EPPF is one of the largest retirement funds in South Africa, with over R130 billion assets under management and with a membership base in excess of 95 000 members. Established in 1932, it provides retirement fund administration services for its members, which include employees, deferred pensioners, pensioners and beneficiaries. In-service members join the EPPF a part of the conditions of service of their participating employers and proceed to become deferred pensioners or pensioners during various life stages. The EPPF pays benefits to qualifying beneficiaries in the event of the passing away of an in-service member, pensioner or deferred pensioner.
