Takealot Group has announced the appointment of Tessa Ackermann as its new group CFO.

“I believe that leading a finance function is more aligned with people than numbers,” Tessa says. “I see my role as a ‘COO’ of finance, with a mandate to build trust with key stakeholders, teams and business divisions to collaboratively solve problems, explore ideas and enable growth.”

Tessa has been with the Takealot Group since 2014 when it acquired Superbalist.com and sold off the South African Naartjie Kids Clothing business. At the time of joining, she served as the financial manager for Naartjie Kids Clothing. In October 2014 she was appointed as the head of finance for Takealot.com. She became the CFO of Superbalist.com following its merger with Spree.co.za in January 2019.

Jurgen Hanekom will be taking over from Tessa as the Superbalist.com CFO. Jurgen joined Takealot, com as a finance manager following its merger with Kalahari.com in 2015. He then worked his way up to head of finance, and most recently CFO of Takealot.com. Prior to the merger, he had been serving as the finance manager of Kalahari.com. Before that, he served as the finance manager at Nexxus Corporation.

Stepping into the role of Takealot.com CFO is Octavius Vermooten, who has been serving as the CFO of Mr D Food since March. Prior to joining Mr D Food as head of finance in March 2018, he was the group financial accountant for the food division of Shoprite.

Rayhaan Samsodien will take over from Octavius as the CFO of Mr D Food. He joined Mr D Food in April 2017 as a financial manager.

The Takealot Group has also announced the appointment of Mamongae Mahlare as its new group CEO.

Tessa and Mamongae’s appointment follows the resignation of CFO Gary Altini and the transition of CEO Kim Reid to chairman of the Takealot Group.

Mamongae joins Takealot from Illovo Sugar South Africa, where she served as MD.

“The opportunity to lead a technology-centric, innovative, South African champion that has created thousands of jobs and enabled so many SMMEs over the past 10 years is both exciting and humbling. I look forward to working with the teams to take this great company to even greater heights,” said Mamongae.

She added that, seeing all the new appointments coming from within the group excites her, as it points to the fact that the business creates opportunities for people to grow and progress.
