Anglo American's diamond unit, De Beers, has put one of its JV mines on the market.
The Elizabeth Bay Mine has been put up for sale by Namdeb, a 50/50 joint venture between the Namibian government and De Beers – Anglo American’s diamond unit.
Pauline Thomas, the company spokeswoman, said in a statement:
“Following a recent review, it was concluded that the best way to secure a longer future for the mine, beyond the current projected 2019 life, is to find a more suitable operator.”
According to Reuters, the sale comes just three weeks after the company offered its staff voluntary redundancies.
The Elizabeth Bay Mine, which employs some 160 people, produced around 200,000 carats in 2017.
