Phillip Matthee new Spur FD

Phillip Matthee will soon be taking over from Ronel van Dijk as FD of Spur Corporation.

Phillip Matthee has been appointed as FD and an executive director of Spur Corporation. He will replace outgoing FD Ronel van Dijk, who will be leaving at the end of March. Ronel first joined Spur head office as group FM in January 2003, and was promoted to CFO in January 2005.

Commenting on his appointment, Phillip paid tribute to Ronel and had no illusions about the task at hand. He said:

“Ronel was a great personal role model and mentor, who will be missed. I learnt a tremendous amount from her and she leaves behind big shoes to fill. I am humbled by the faith that the board has in my ability to fulfill this role, and thank the directors for this opportunity. I expect the role to be a challenge, but one which I am able to rise to, working with the immense talent pool within the group, as part of the team to take the group forward into our next 50 years.”

Pierre van Tonder, Spur Corporation CEO, said:

“It is in our company ethos to promote from within, and there is no doubt that Phil has benefitted from his interaction with Ronel over the past ten years. It goes without saying that we thank Ronel for her commitment and effort over the past 15 years and we wish her much success in her future endeavours.”

Phillip qualified as a CA(SA) in 2002 and served as group accountant at Clicks Group before joining Spur Corporation in 2007. He has served as the company’s group finance executive since 2008. His appointment is effective 1 April 2018.
