Pretty will fill a key role, which has been vacant for over a year, at the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) as of February.
Pretty Nozipho Makukule is expected to bring much-needed stability to Sanral as she begins work at the parastatal as CFO.
She previously served two and a half years at South African National Parks (SANParks), and brings a wealth of experience in managing public sector finances to her new role.
Pretty started her career in the banking sector and worked in three sectors of government over the past 20 years, serving as CFO at the departments of science and innovation; and higher education and training. She was also the senior finance manager and, later, CFO at the Tshwane Economic Development Agency.
From 2010 to 2013, she was the director of financial accounting for the roads and transport department in Gauteng, and from 2008 to 2009 she was the financial manager at the Urban Transport Fund.
Pretty also served as a non-executive director at the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), on the audit and risk committee at the quality council for trades and occupations (QCTO), as well as on the shared audit committee at Ehlanzeni District Municipality.
She was also a contender in two major categories in the 2023 CFO Awards, namely CFO of the Year and Public Sector CFO of the Year for her work at the higher education and training department.
