MTN CFO Ralph Mupita nominated for CFO Awards 2019

He is helping to guide the telecoms giant through challenging times and boost MTN's growth.

Ralph Mupita, MTN CFO, says he is “humbled” to have been nominated for the CFO Awards, which will take place next year on 9 May. 

At the annual ‘Oscars for South African finance professionals’, CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions are recognised and rewarded for their outstanding performance and leadership. 

In an interview with 702, Ralph revealed he loves working with emerging markets on the African continent, and believes that the best success is achieved through working as part of a team. 

Prior to joining MTN, Ralph Mupita spent many years at Old Mutual, where he served as chief executive officer of Old Mutual Emerging Markets, and director of Special Growth Projects for Old Mutual Life Assurance

Ralph is an alumnus of Harvard Business School and holds a BSc Engineering (Hons) and completed his MBA at the University of Cape Town. He is also a graduate of Harvard Business School’s GMP programme and has also attended executive programmes at London Business School and INSEAD. 

South-Africa-based, multinational mobile telecommunications company MTN Group operates in 22 markets in Africa and the MIddle East, offering e-commerce and digital services in music, financial services and entertainment. 
 
In the past year, Ralph has been at the coalface of MTN’s challenges in Nigeria, with the country’s Central Bank demanding repatriation of $8.1 billion in funds that it says were transferred illegally out of the country. MTN disputes the claim..
