SA placed 46th out of 85 countries in global entrepreneurship index

The results of the recently released Ashish J. Thakkar Global Entrepreneurship Index for 2016 are out and South Africa placed 46th overall, scoring 230 points on the index. A total of 85 countries were ranked this year.

The aim of the index is to highlight which countries are performing well and which ones could improve. The entrepreneurial environment in the considered countries is assessed across five pillars: policy, infrastructure, entrepreneurial environment, education and finance. SA scored 35 for policy, 42 for infrastructure, 51 for education, 36 for entrepreneurial and 66 for finance, achieving a total score of 230.

Namibia was the top performer for the African continent, ranking at number 42 with 241 points. It was followed by Rwanda with 240 points and Botswana with 232 points. Singapore topped the list overall, with 395 points, followed by New Zealand with 394 points and Denmark with 388 points.
