The competition seeks to identify South Africa's top CAs under the age of 35. Hundreds of top-quality entries were received; the number whittled down to 35 finalists. Each finalist had to display a successful portfolio, but also demonstrate personal characteristics of leadership, determination, drive and courage.

Judging took place on 5 and 6 August, and the judges included, among others, radio personality John Robbie and Discovery Health CFO Brett Tromp; the latter a two-times CFO South Africa Award winner.
