Spar Group enjoys sales growth of 16.9%

The Spar Group has increased its sales by 16.9%, to R25.6 billion, up from R21.9 billion, for the 13-week trading quarter ending 31 December 2016. This is compared to the same period in 2015.

Despite a slow-down in the building materials business, which affected the Build It business, group sales in South Africa increased by 5.8%. Without the Build It business, group sales increased by 6.2%. On the liquor side, sales growth exceeded 11.3%, remaining strong. Retail sales, meanwhile, grew by 6.1%.

The financial results for the six months ending 31 March 2017 will be released at the end of May 2017.
