Pierre will step down from the role of CEO in December, after 38 years with Spur Corporation.

After 38 years of service, Spur Corporation CEO Pierre van Tonder is set to retire from the group at the end of December 2020.

Pierre has served as managing director and CEO of Spur since 1996. He joined the group in 1982, as a junior restaurant manager and was appointed to the holding company board 10 years later.

Spur chairman Mike Bosman said in a statement that the business has shown strong growth under Pierre’s leadership over the past 24 years, with the group now a market-leading, multi-brand franchisor with over 640 restaurants in South Africa and internationally.
Pierre has overseen the expansion of the brand portfolio through the in-house development of brands like Panarottis and the acquisition of smaller brands like RocoMamas, The Hussar Grill and John Dory’s.

“On behalf of the board, management, all our employees and franchisees, we thank Pierre for his outstanding contribution to the Spur Corporation and wish him well in the next chapter of his life,” Mike said.
