US tech giant IBM is gearing up its digital skills training programme as it moves to train some 25 million Africans for free over the next five years, in a bid to grow the continent’s workforce.

The initial investment is some R945 million and will see the rolling out of the training initiative in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Morocco and Egypt simultaneously. IBM has partnered with the UN to extend the initiative across Africa. It is also in discussions with numerous other potential partners to give the programme scale.
