CFO of Oceana Group Imraan Soomra has been nominated for the 2017 CFO Awards. Soomra won the Transformation & Empowerment Award at the CFO Awards 2015. The annual 'Oscars for South African CFOs', to be held on 11 May, recognise CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions, and awards them for outstanding performance and leadership.

Educated at the University of KZN and Harvard University, Imraan has worked across a number of industries, including serving as the Head of Finance of the South African Football Association and the 2010 FIFA World Cup Bid Committee, as well as the CFO of M-net and SuperSport. He joined Oceana in July 2013, where he has been instrumental in managing the group's game-changing R4.6 billion acquisition of the US-based Daybrook Fisheries, helping it become the world's sixth-biggest fishing company and Africa's largest.

In an interview with CFO South Africa, he spoke of authenticity as a key to his success:

"I have never done something to seek success, but always because I enjoy it. Working hard is important, but authenticity has been one of the reasons I have been successful. I tell it straight and I take it straight. I know my strengths and my weaknesses."
