Sibanye Gold CFO Charl Keyter nominated for CFO Awards 2017

Charl Keyter has once again been nominated for a CFO Award for his outstanding achievements at Sibanye Gold, after also being nominated for a gong at the 2016 edition of the awards. The annual 'Oscars for South African CFOs', to be held on 11 May, recognises CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions and awards them for outstanding performance and leadership.

Charl, who holds an MBA from North-West University and a BCom degree from the University of Johannesburg, has been with the mining behemoth since 1995 and became CFO in 2013. He has also served as the Head and Vice President of International Finance at Gold Fields and as a non-executive director of Oil Recovery and Maintenance Services Prorietary Limited.

SIbanye employs more than 45 000 people across its rapidly expanding operations. Charl has been commended for his efforts in steering SIbanye's financial ship through what has been a difficult time for the mining industry.

At a recent CFO SA event, he advised his fellow executives to always be grounded in reality:

"The CFO must be the reality check for those who are happy to run down a path across all sectors. There are rules that introduce this internally, but recruitment of people who fit into our culture and direct communication with employees are also important."
