BP's Udayan Sen and Afrisam's Leon Serfontein share their thoughts on the CFO Awards experience.
Udayan Sen (BP Southern Africa) and Leon Serfontein (Afrisam) are both men who prefer to get the work done in the background and let their efforts speak for them. When CFO South Africa MD Graham Fehrsen caught up with them to talk about their experience of the CFO Awards, both were quick to point to their teams and great organisations as the reason for any success they might acknowledge.
Udayan is a seasoned petrochemical finance man with experience on three continents. He said:
"I am thoroughly enjoying my time in South Africa and was delighted to be nominated among a prestigious group of professionals. The awards evening was exceptional."
It is a busy time for Afrisam, with pressing market conditions and ongoing deal activity. Recalling his experience of this year’s Awards, Leon said:
"I was very impressed with the night of the Awards but what made a real impression was the professionalism of the process and what the CFO South Africa team delivered. I was initially sceptical but the experience was great."
Leon also confirmed that he will be speaking at this year’s Finance Indaba. "I'm pleased to be able to contribute as a speaker and look forward to being at the Finance Indaba in October with my team," he said.
Graham says he is constantly surprised at the diversity of roles finance leaders fulfil and that talking to the awards nominees reinforces how difficult it is for the experienced judges. He says: “I say it every year at the awards – although there are winners on the night, the calibre of these professionals is exceptional."
