Transnet's Garry Pita nominated for CFO Awards

post-title

Transnet CFO Garry Pita has been nominated for the 2017 CFO Awards. The annual 'Oscars for South African CFOs', to be held on 11 May, recognise CFOs of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions, and awards them for outstanding performance and leadership.

A chartered accountant with over a decade of service at Transnet, Garry has led key strategic aspects of our finance function, including heading up IFRS conversion and Group Internal Control. He has held various senior roles at the organisation, including Group Chief Supply Chain Officer and GM of Business Services. The Wits University alumnus leads all aspects of the company's financial strategy, including overseeing the company's funding and capital investment programmes, managing procurement, financial risks and adherence to the highest standards of governance and internal controls.

Transnet is a self-sustaining state-owned enterprise, the largest and most crucial part of the freight logistics chain that delivers thousands of tons of goods around South Africa, through its pipelines and both to and from its ports. It has a workforce of more than 60 000 people.

Garry said of his nomination:

"We are changing the way we do things and our operating model. Forget the award - it is not important whether I win. It is important to understand that we at Transnet have such belief in ourselves that we will not take money from the man on the street and pick the sovereign up. Our people have an insatiable desire to hunt for their supper and not rest on their laurels. This is not a Garry Pita story, it is a South African one. These are people who are helping make the country a success."
