Despite recently saying he would be retiring, Tyrone Soondarjee, previously financial director at the Sasfin Group, has been appointed Cell C’s new chief financial officer, effective 1 July 2017. Soondarjee will take over from Robert Pasley, who will return to his original role as chief strategy officer.

Speaking to CFO South Africa previously about the CFO role in modern organisations, Soondarjee said the role is becoming more important and demanding. He said:

"CFOs are really a key business partner and as a vital part of the 'C' suite. The transition to CEO is becoming more and more natural and common."

Soondarjee, who held the position of CFO for the Sasfin Group from 2007 to 2010, has a BCompt (Honours) CTA from UNISA and is also a CA(SA). Prior to joining Sasfin, he served Deloitte & Touche in various executive roles. He was also FD of TNBS Mutual Bank.
