Absa group FD Jason Quinn steps in as interim group CEO

Jason Quinn takes over from Daniel Mminele, who has only been in the role for 15 months.

Absa has announced the appointment of Jason Quinn as its interim group CEO with immediate effect.

Jason has been the group FD of Absa since August 2016 and was awarded the 2020 CFO of the Year for his work in this role. He joined the bank in 2008 as a financial controller and was appointed as the head of finance in 2014 after holding several senior finance positions. He is the chairman of the models committee and a member of the group risk and capital management, credit concentration risk, information technology and separation oversight committees. Before joining the group, he was a partner at EY.

Jason also serves as a director of Absa Financial Services and Woolworths Financial Services, and is an employer appointed trustee of the Absa Pension Fund.

Jason will step in as CEO Daniel Mminele steps down after only 15 months in the role. After discussions around Daniel’s departure, the bank said in a statement that “it has become clear that there is non-alignment on matters of strategy and culture transformation”.

Daniel joined Absa in January 2020, taking over from René van Wyk who had been acting in the role since Maria Ramos’s retirement in February 2019.
