The veteran finance executive is ending a 29-year tenure, while the company’s search for a successor is underway.

Naspers and Prosus have announced the forthcoming retirement of Basil Sgourdos, Group CFO and FD, after a distinguished 29-year career with the company. Basil joined the company in 1994 as finance manager for the South African operations division of MultiChoice, progressing to various senior leadership roles globally.

Speaking on Basil’s retirement, Koos Bekker, chairman of Naspers and Prosus, said: “While Basil will remain active in his role for another few months, I would like to take this opportunity to recognise and thank Basil for his dedicated service to the company over the last 29 years.”

His retirement follows recent leadership changes, including the appointment of Fabricio Bloisi as Group CEO in July.

Basil’s expertise and guidance have been key in helping Naspers and Prosus achieve significant milestones, including the listing of Prosus in 2019.

Basil will retire on 30 November, 2024. Meanwhile, the company continues its search for his successor.
