Ben Ngubane (pictured) has resigned as non-executive director and chairperson of the board of Eskom with immediate effect. Lynne Brown, Public Enterprises minister, made the announcement late last night.

Brown said that Ngubane tendered his resignation and she accepted. She said:

"To ensure continuity at Eskom, I have decided to appoint Mr Zethembe Khoza as interim Chairperson… I would like to thank Dr Ngubane for his contribution to turning Eskom around since the load shedding days and wish him well."

Khoza has been a non-executive board member of Eskom since 2013. He received a National Technical Diploma in Telecommunications Technology from the Pretoria Technikon in 1982, roundabout the same time he was working as a Managing Executive at Telkom SA Ltd - a role he held for 32 years, until 2012.

Minister Brown has said that Khoza's run as interim chairperson will continue until she receives approval from Cabinet regarding new board appointments.
