Victor Senna will be replacing Robert McBride, who is contending Victor's appointment, with immediate effect.

Former Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) chief financial officer Victor Senna has been appointed as the new acting head of IPID with immediate effect.

He will be replacing Robert McBride, whose contract was concluded on Thursday, for a period of three months.

Victor was appointed as the CFO of IPID in February 2018. Prior to this, he served as the chief director of budget and revenue at the Gauteng Department of Health for two years. Before this, he was the general manager of finance at the South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa). In his earlier managerial years, he worked as the director for finance in the Department of Science and Technology for eight years.

Police Minister Bheki Cele (pictured), has wished Victor all of the best in his new role.

“All that is needed at this level of governance is wisdom and understanding in carrying the country’s fundamental mandate as directed by the constitution. Mr Senna must take priority in ensuring that IPID remains independent and discharge its operational mandate accordingly without fear, favour or prejudice.”

Cele will be meeting with IPID’s senior management, provincial heads as well as parliament’s portfolio committee of police to introduce Victor to members of the committee.

McBride, who has gone to court because Cele hadn’t renewed his contract, contends that Cele should not be able to appoint the head of IPID, as he would be choosing the person who should be holding him to account.
