As 2025 draws to a close after a trying economic year, finance leaders across sectors are looking ahead to 2026 with a renewed focus on balance, execution and sustainable growth. Finance leaders share what they are hoping for in the year ahead.
South Africa’s finance leaders are entering 2026 with cautious optimism, shaped by a year marked by economic pressure, disciplined planning and personal reflection. For many CFOs, the year ahead represents an opportunity to restore balance while sharpening execution and positioning their organisations for growth.
Access Bank CFO Avashnee Ramdial said her focus for 2026 is on clarity and balance. “I look forward to a year with more balance and clear execution on plans,” she said. Her outlook reflects a broader sentiment among finance leaders who have spent much of 2025 navigating uncertainty and prioritising resilience.
At RS South Africa, finance director Ayanda Kotobe described 2025 as a demanding year that required sustained focus and adaptability. “The slow economy and its impact on our customers and on us as a business, required a great deal of focus and planning to ensure that we continued delivering on our objectives while staying prepared for when the economy inevitably turns,” she said.
She said the intensity of the past year also prompted deeper personal reflection. “Looking ahead to 2026, my focus will be on self-care and mindfulness. It might sound a bit selfish, but I believe that taking care of myself allows me to show up better for those around me, including my colleagues,” she said. She added that the experience reminded her of the importance of sustainability at a personal level. “We often say, you can’t pour from an empty cup, and for me, that means taking the time to rejuvenate and fill up from within.”
The start of 2026 coincides with the final quarter of RS South Africa’s financial year, which Ayanda said would be a key operational focus. “Ending the financial year strong will be a big priority. The best way to achieve that is by feeling stronger and healthier myself, both mentally and physically,” she said. Ultimately, her hopes for the year ahead extend beyond financial results. “My hope for 2026 is continued growth, personally and professionally. I look forward to seeing our teams thrive, new opportunities unfold, and to leading with purpose and impact.”
From a technology and asset management perspective, Pragma CFO Morné van Tonder said 2026 would be defined by expansion and execution. “At Pragma we’re scaling On Key EAM and professional services globally, targeting key sectors,” he said. He noted that macroeconomic conditions would play an important role. “A steadier South African and global economy will help,” he said.
Alongside business ambitions, Morne also highlighted a significant personal milestone. “At home, my eldest is off to varsity, fingers crossed for a smooth transition,” he said.
