Consumer inflation price drops

South Africa's consumer price inflation came out at 4.4 percent in January 2018.

South Africa's consumer price inflation dropped from 4.7 percent in December 2017 to 4.4 percent in January 2018. This was in line with expectations, and was due largely to a drop in the fuel price.

The consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.3 percent month-on-month in January this year. Moreover, the CPI for goods increased by 3.7 percent year-on-year, down from 4.1% in December, while the CPI for services increased by 5.1 percent year-on-year, down from 5.3 percent in December.
