The Zimbabwe-based associate of AB InBev, Delta Corporation, is finalising a deal to acquire a controlling stake in National Breweries of Zambia, the leading sorghum beer producer in Zambia.

Delta said in a statement that this investment opportunity fitted "well with the company's multi-beverage strategy". It further said that the equity is being acquired from Heinrich's Syndicate, a subsidiary of AB InBev.

AB InBev announced in May this year that it was contemplating selling its 70-percent majority stake in National Breweries, saying at the time that it was conducting a review of its strategic options pertaining to its investment in National Breweries, which included a possible sale of its shareholding.
