D’Shorne hopes to introduce good governance, ethical behaviour and integrity into the SOC space.

D’Shorne Human has been appointed as the new CFO of the South African Forestry Company (Safcol).

“I am excited about the new role and the unique challenges it brings, because I strongly believe in the benefits of cross-pollination of best practices between companies and even industries,” he says about the appointment.

He adds that he will continue to seek such opportunities to add value within the framework of the Public Finance Management Act and related state guidance in order to build on the group’s financial stability and profitability, while keeping the balance with transformation targets.

“I hope to settle in quickly and aid an experienced and competent exco and board in this critical function, to continue with and expand the turnaround strategies that were initiated in the prior year,” he says. “It will be top of my mind to bring into the SOC space the good governance, ethical behaviour and integrity that is imperative in the office of the CFO, finance function and business as a whole.”

Prior to joining Safcol, D’Shorne served as the group FD of Pearlstock Holdings for four years. Before that, he served as CFO at Trafigura’s Mawson West Limited. He also served as the head of finance for Ampcontrol and the group financial manager of Total Coal South Africa. He worked at Deloitte for more than three years, BHP Billiton for another three and ALSTOM for three more years. He has a BCom honours degree in accounting science from the University of Pretoria and a master’s degree from the Manchester Metropolitan University.
