Eastern Cape transport department CFO Denzel Skweyiya passes away in car accident

Denzel was the Eastern Cape government's longest-serving CFO.

On Friday night, 8 May, Eastern Cape transport department CFO Denzel Skweyiya died in a car accident on the N2 between King Williams’s Town and Mdantsane, when a BMW collided head-on with his Toyota Sedan. 

Denzel, the Eastern Cape government’s longest-serving CFO, died on the scene while the driver of the BMW survived with minor injuries.

Member of the executive council of transport, safety and liaison Weziwe Tikana-Gxothiwe extended condolences to the Skweyiya Family saying that one of the most seasoned members of the provincial administration has been lost. “We will forever be indebted to him for the role he has played to improve the lives of the people of the province.”

Head of the department for transport, safety and liaison Mzilindile Mafani said: 

“We are heartbroken and grieve that our friend and colleague, has passed away. Our thoughts, prayers go to his wife and children and all the extended family.”
