Ekurhuleni City's municipal council has suspended Gugu Malaza for non-disclosure of SABC dismissal.
The council of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality suspended Gugu Pride Malaza, the City’s group chief financial officer, last week with effect from 29 October.
The decision to suspend Malaza was based on her failure to disclose information regarding her dismissal at the SABC for procurement and financial irregularities.
The suspension was finalised after the city manager issued her with a letter requesting reasons as to why she should not be suspended.
Phakamile Mbengashe, acting spokesperson for Mayor Mzwandile Masina, said:
“Upon receiving a response from Ms Malaza, the city manager found that there was no basis for her not to be suspended.”
Mbengashe’s statement said that her suspension was pending on the finalisation of an investigation into the alleged non-disclosure of information regarding her dismissal from the SABC as required by regulation 11 of the Systems Act of 2000.
"Further investigations are currently being conducted by the City and should be concluded within the next three months," said Mbengashe.
