Bothwell, winner of the 2025 CFO South Africa Finance & ESG Award, begins his new chapter at the mining giant in London.

Former Kumba Iron Ore CFO Bothwell Mazarura has been appointed as senior vice president at Anglo American. As part of his new role and responsibilities, Bothwell will oversee risk management and internal audits at the global multinational mining giant.

Bothwell stepped down from the CFO role in June 2025, after eight years of leading the finance division. But he remained as CFO and executive director at Kumba Iron Ore for the latter half of the year to ensure a smooth transition for his successor, Xolani Mbambo.

Bothwell served as CFO and executive director at Wescoal Holdings for a year prior to his role at Kumba Iron Ore. He has also held various senior financial roles at Lonmin since 2010, including head of group finance and head of treasury.

Bothwell is no stranger to London’s accounting environment, having been a partner at Deloitte between 2002 and 2010, including a period working in the UK.
