Former Safaricom Sateesh Kamath appointed as British firm Vodafone Business CFO

Sateesh has held various roles within the Vodafone franchise, including FD and vice president.

Former Safaricom CFO Sateesh Kamath has been appointed as the new CFO of Vodafone Business with effect from 1 July. 

According to a statement, in his new role, Sateesh will be reporting to the British firm Vodafone CEO Vinod Kumar

About his appointment, Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa says: 

“In his four-year tenure, Sateesh built a reputation as an outstanding finance expert in the region, a leader and a mentor, qualities that we at Safaricom have benefited from greatly and we will deeply miss him.”

Peter says Sateesh played a key role in completing the acquisition of M-Pesa Joint Venture from Vodafone and the purchase of critical spectrum while ensuring efficient use of the company’s funds. 

Safaricom and its South African parent company Vodacom in April completed the acquisition of the M-Pesa brand from their affiliate Vodafone Group in a Sh1.4 billion (approximately $135 million) transaction.

Sateesh joined Safaricom as CFO and executive director on the board on 1 August 2016 from Vodacom Tanzania, where he served as FD. Prior to that he served in various roles within Vodafone, including finance executive of AMAP, vice president, general manager of financial planning and analysis, head of finance, deputy general manager and senior manager. He’s also served for companies Coats, Coca Cola and Amara Raja Batteries
