Tesla CFO Jason Wheeler has announced that he is leaving the electric vehicle manufacturer, a company started by South African-born entrepreneur Elon Musk. Wheeler will be replaced by Tesla’s former CFO, Deepak Ahuja (pictured).

Tesla said in an online statement:

"Jason made a number of significant contributions at Tesla, including leading the company to a profitable third quarter last year, significantly improving the company's cash position, helping to lead the acquisition of SolarCity, and preparing Tesla to scale for the launch of Model 3."

Wheeler joined Tesla in 2015 from Google, where he was last the VP of finance. Before that he was the director of finance in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Ahuja joined the company in 2008 after nearly a decade at Ford, but retired in 2015. It has been said that Wheeler will be pursuing a position in public policy after leaving Tesla.
