Grindrod Bank appoints former Cell C CFO Tyrone Soondarjee as chairperson

Tyrone Soondarjee joins Grindrod Bank as chairperson after the resignation of Amanda Dambuza.

Grindrod Bank has announced that it has appointed former Cell C CFO Tyrone Soondarjee as its new chairperson. Tyrone’s appointment follows the recent resignation of Amanda Dambuza as the chairperson of the board in July 2020.

Tyrone has more than 30 years’ experience within the corporate sector, holding a wide range of senior executive roles in the financial services, telecoms and professional services industries.

He was most recently the CFO and executive director at Cell C. Before that he served as FD at the Sasfin Group, a position he had held since 2010. He joined Sasfin in 2007 as the group’s CFO. Throughout his tenure, Tyrone served on several boards within Sasfin.

Before Sasfin Group, Tyrone held several executive level positions at Deloitte and was the FD at TNBS Mutual Bank.

In addition to being a qualified chartered accountant, Tyrone holds both a BCompt honours and CTA degree.

According to a statement by the company, he is a firm believer in collaboration in order to make a meaningful impact towards the economic transformation of ordinary South Africans, and currently serves as an independent audit committee member of the National Empowerment Fund.

The company has also appointed Tyrone Soondarjee joins Grindrod Bank as chairperson after the resignation of Amanda Dambuza.
 as its new lead independent director.
