Stephen steps in for retiring CEO Martyn Wade, and will retain his current role as CFO.

Grindrod Shipping has announced that Stephen Griffiths will be taking up the role of interim CEO along with his current role as CFO. Stephen steps in for CEO Martyn Wade, who will be retiring from 30 April 2022 after more than 14 years with the company.

Stephen qualified as a chartered accountant (SA) in 1985. After completing his articles at Hudson, Langham, Morrison and Co, he spent two years in London, where he gained international experience in a number of accountancy and consulting roles. Stephen joined the Reunert Group in 1989, where he served in a number of financial management roles.

He joined Grindrod in 2004 as group financial manager and was promoted to CFO of the shipping division in 2009. He is also a director of major South African and international shipping subsidiaries in the division.

“I am delighted to be handing over to my longtime colleague and friend Steve Griffiths, who has been at my side since 2010, and I know that he will continue to drive Grindrod Shipping and build further on the solid base we have established,” says Martyn. “It has been an honour and privilege to lead the company through its development into a leading publicly-listed drybulk shipping company following its spin-off from our former parent, Grindrod, in 2018.”
