Jonathan Lang, Head Bowman Gilfillan Africa Group: Expanding into Africa

post-title

“Our vision is to build a group network of offices in eight to twelve African countries,” said Jonathan Lang, head of the law firm Bowman Gilfillan Africa Group. On Tuesday Lang met with Melle Eijckelhoff of CFO South Africa, the fast growing CFO-platform for networking and knowledge sharing in the country. They discussed the legal and financial challenges of South African finance professionals especially those venturing further into Africa.

With a 100-year track record of providing legal services, Bowman Gilfillan is a premier South African-based corporate law firm. The company has offices in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda and is rapidly expanding into the rest of Africa. "We're now also looking to expand into Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Angola, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia," Lang revealed.

Bowman Gilfillan is one of the leading law firms in South Africa. They have worked on some of the most eye-catching merger and acquisition (M&A) deals in the country, including the first successful hostile takeover of a South Africa company by a foreign pursuer. The firm is a member of the global network of commercial and corporate law attorneys Lex Mundi, which gives it access to more than 160 member firms globally. Bowman Gilfillan's clients include multinational corporations and international finance houses, investment banks, industrial conglomerates, financial institutions, governments and state authorities.

An interview with Lang will be published on this website in the following weeks. In this he'll share his views on on some pitfalls of "rushing into Africa".
