Luke Woodford has been appointed as chief financial officer for FirstRand: Broader Africa.
Newly-appointed CFO for FirstRand: Broader Africa Luke Woodford believes in people and aims to be a part of their growth journey.
“I am approachable, easy to work with, and I enjoy creating collaborative spaces. I aim to be accessible; offering guidance and a soundboard to all,” he says.
Luke is a firm believer in holding on to your dreams, and says he is humbled and grateful to step into this new role. He adds that his life philosophy is: “my dreams are valid and I hope they will happen. But if not, I will still build a happy full life”.
“I started my banking career as a bank teller, which allowed me to grasp the fundamentals of service and banking early in my career journey. After volunteering full-time for 2 years while living in Uganda and Ethiopia, I rejoined banking.”
Luke was previously the CFO for FNB Botswana, and has worked for the FirstRand Group for over 15 years, in various roles - 10 of which have been at CFO level. His tenure included working in the FNB Home Loans division. He was also the CFO of FNB Tanzania, and was later transferred to FirstRand India, also as CFO.
He took on the CFO of FNB Botswana (FNBB) role in 2018. His banking experience covers areas of accounting, finance, credit, risk, and strategy. He was appointed to the FNBB board of directors in 2022.
Luke is a CA(SA) and FCMA and has completed the accelerated development programme through the Wharton Business School in 2015.
