Prosus and Naspers have confirmed the appointment of Nico Marais as Group CFO, effective immediately.
Prosus announced that the boards of both Prosus and Naspers have unanimously approved the appointment of Nico Marais (51) as group CFO, with immediate effect.
Nico brings over 25 years of financial management experience within the group and has served as interim CFO since December 2024. During his tenure, he has been instrumental in several strategic initiatives, including the listing of Prosus, the unwinding of the crossholdings between Prosus and Naspers, ongoing share repurchase programmes and the group’s debt capital market activities.
A qualified CA, Marais holds a bachelor of Accounting and honours qualifications from Stellenbosch University. Prior to his interim CFO role, he was the group’s general manager of finance and previously held other senior finance roles across both Naspers and Prosus.
Nico has now been appointed to the Naspers board as financial director with immediate effect and will join the Prosus board following its annual general meeting in August 2025, subject to shareholder approval.
Commenting on the group’s interim results in late 2024, Nico highlighted improved profitability across the ecommerce segment, with an adjusted EBIT of $181 million, five times higher than the previous year, and stated his ambition to reach $400 million in ecommerce profitability by the end of financial year 2025.
