Annual report 2012
2012 has been an exciting year for Unisa as it plans for the last phase of its ten-year strategic plan: Unisa
2015. The further developments in the higher education milieu, the national strategy and focus on the overall post-school education and training space and the global trends were all seen through the lens of emerging opportunities but cognizant of the concomitant internal and external risks. As the university embarks on this journey, the principles of sound corporate governance, ethical leadership and sustainability have been uppermost in the collective decision-making mind.

Annual report 2012
In 2012 one of the most critical tasks of the council was to approve the strategic trajectory for the university for 2013-2015. This task was successfully finalized through the review of the status quo and an agreement on the key institutional imperatives for the next three years, the strategic objectives and the 2013(annual) pre-determined objectives for contracting with the Minister. An enhancement of this year's planning process was the integration of a thorough risk-assessment and the co-ordination of the outcomes into the planning methodology. It is anticipated that the strategic risk register will be finalized early in 2013 and Unisa then boast a fully integrated Strategic and Risk Plan, together with agreed synchronized strategic actions. The role of the Council in the ensuring years will be to monitor compliance with the targets and do a 'light-touch' annual review to ensure currency of the document.
