Nonkululeko Gobodo to inspire young graduates as WSU chancellor

Nonkululeko Gobodo, who was the first black woman CA(SA). will inspire others to follow in her footsteps.

Nonkululeko Gobodo has been appointed as the new chancellor of Walter Sisulu University (WSU), after her nomination for the role was unopposed and unanimously approved by the council on 14 April.

Revered for being the first black woman CA in South Africa during apartheid times, and for her continuous contribution to businesses across the world, Nonkululeko brings a wealth of expertise to the new role.

As the new chancellor of WSU, she is expected to inspire many young graduates to achieve their goals and make a significant social impact, WSU said in a statement.

Nonkululeko has been an inspiration to many finance professionals, including 2021 CFO of the Year Bongi Ngoma.

After practising as a CA for years, and serving as the CFO of Transkei Development Corporation, Nonkululeko started her own business, Nonkululeko Leadership Consulting. She has also served as the CEO and executive chairman of El Shaddai Equity Investments. Currently, she is the CEO of Awakened Global.

She also serves on the boards of Shoprite, PPC and Lesaka Technologies.

She has a BCom from WSU and a BAccSc honours degree from Unisa. She is also a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
