Riaan Koppeschaar to continue steering Exxaro’s finances

Riaan Koppeschaar will continue in his role as finance director for Exxaro, following the appointment of seasoned mining executive Ben Magara as CEO, effective 1 April 2025.

Riaan has been serving as acting CEO since December 2024 following the resignation of Nombasa Tsengwa last year.

Exxaro chairperson Geoffrey Qhena expressed the board's gratitude to Riaan.

A chartered accountant with almost 30 years in the mining industry, Riaan is a graduate of Insead’s advanced management programme. Before becoming Exxaro’s FD in 2016, he held a senior management role in the company. He has previously held managerial roles at Iscor and Kumba Iron Ore.

Ben is a qualified mining engineer and highly regarded mining veteran with over 35 years' industry experience in both soft and hard rock mining at underground and open pit operations. He is renowned for driving operational excellence and providing strategic leadership at multiple large mining operations.
