SARS has announced the appointment of Johnstone Makhubu as their permanent CFO.
Johnstone Makhubu will be taking the role of chief financial officer at the South African Revenue Services (SARS) with immediate effect. He has been with SARS since 2016 as the group executive responsible for Procurement and has been the acting CFO since August 2017.
Prior to his joining SARS, Johnstone worked for Eskom as Head of Business Enablement, among other roles. He was responsible for implementing a rationalised centre-led procurement hub and later the Commercial Finance unit, which eventually extended to cover the Supply Chain Management Risk and Governance Unit.
Johnstone holds a BSc in Engineering and a BCom in Supply Chain and Operations Management from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and UNISA respectively. He also holds a MBL from the University of South Africa’s School of Business Leadership, has completed a Senior Management Programme with the Henley Business School and is at the outset of a PhD with the University of Pretoria.
He has more than 17 years experience across the FMCG, Mining, Engineering, Manufacturing and Power Generation industries. He has filled roles in areas such as facilities management, supply chain management and business support services. He has worked for Unilever, Tiger Brands, Anglo Platinum, Eskom and now SARS.
