Vodacom South Africa has appointed Sitho Mdlalose as its new managing director with effect from 1 July. Sitho, who is currently the MD of Vodacom Tanzania, will be taking over from Balesh Sharma, who is stepping down at the end of June to pursue an external career opportunity.

Sitho, who has been with Vodacom Tanzania since August 2021, will return to South Africa to take up his new role. He has previously served as the financial director of Vodacom South Africa and has valuable experience with the group’s operations.

He joined Vodacom in 2013 as the managing executive of internal audit, and has since held various other leadership roles, including acting COO, CFO of international business, and interim group CFO.

“I am confident that Sitho is the ideal candidate to lead Vodacom South Africa in a challenging economic climate that will require proactive innovations to adjust to shifts in customer behaviour. His in-depth experience, financial and business acumen, strong interpersonal skills and proven track record make him an obvious choice for this important role,” said Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub.
