Standard Bank Group chief finance and value management officer Arno Daehnke will step down at the end of 2027.

Standard Bank Group chief finance and value management officer Arno Daehnke has announced that he will retire by the end of 2027.

Arno, who was appointed CFO in 2016, has been a central figure in shaping the bank’s financial strategy, capital management and value creation efforts. In recognition of his leadership and impact, he was honoured as the 2023 CFO of the Year by CFO South Africa.

In a previous interview with CFO South Africa, Arno said that while he is proud of his finance work, the real achievement lies in growing stakeholder value – from creating opportunities for clients to support governments, regulators and sustainability. “The title doesn’t do anything, your actions do.”

He explained that his finance team goes beyond “number crunching”. Traditionally focused on reporting and control, finance now plays a key role in strategy, resource allocation and driving digital transformation. “We’re preserving and growing value across many spectrums,” he added.

Reflecting this shift, Standard Bank renamed its leaders chief finance and value management officers (CFVOs). “As CFVO, you must ensure the business thrives in uncertainty, attract and empower scarce talent, and manage ESG matters, especially vital in Africa,” he explains.

The Group has also announced that Sim Tshabalala, the longtime group CEO, will also be retiring at the end of 2027.
